Exa

Exa is an optional web-search enhancement for Grok Code.

Setup

Use:

/enable_exa

The flow:

• asks for your Exa API key
• writes a global MCP server named exa
• configures it through npx -y exa-mcp-server

Important Limit

Restart Grok Code after setup. The config is saved immediately, but the current session may not fully expose the Exa tools until restart.

If Setup Looks Incomplete

Check:

• was the key accepted?
• did you restart?
• does /mcp show exa?
